COME FROM AWAY at ORPHEUM- SUN Aug. 23                     $89
This remarkable true story is based on actual events that took place on September 11, 2001, and the days that followed.  The musical tells the story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land, unexpectedly, in the small town of Gander in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. The characters in the musical are based on real Gander residents as well as some of the 7,000 stranded travelers they housed and fed.  Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned in to trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.
"On 9/11 the world stopped... On 9/12 their stories moved us all!"

This musical captures the memorable day when four  Rock n' Roll greats made music history.  On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought together Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley at Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis TN.  The man who made it happen was the "Father of Rock n' Roll, Sam Phillips, who discovered them all!  This was the only occasion the four legends-to-be played together and it came to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time. Featuring a score of rock hits including: “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Who Do you Love?” “Sixteen Tons.” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and more.  Join us at the Old Log Theatre for this fabulous show, with lunch prior at Maynards (on own), Excelsior.
